100 Things You (Don't) Need To Know

Here it is, the 100 random facts about me. I typically like to make lists, but not like these. But it seemed like it was a good idea, so I jumped on the blogger bandwaggon. It's long so beware.

1. I officially hate raccoons.

2. I am not exactly a big fan of squirrels right now either.

3. Registering for gifts has been one of my favorite wedding planning activities.

4. Trying on dresses wasn’t so bad either.

5. I have made different groups of friends for each phase of my life and have difficulty maintaining those friendships as I move to each new phase. This deeply concerns me on a daily basis.

6. I have a fairly large scar on my right calf from getting my birthmark removed when I was 4, and some people don’t notice it until they’ve known me for years.

7. I don’t like make up and sometimes wish it was never invented so no one wore it.

8. I have healthy hair because I don’t fix it.

9. I don’t fix my hair because I don’t know how.

10. I was told numerous times as a teen to get my eyebrows waxed. I refused until I was in college about to turn 21.

11. I have never had an alcoholic beverage.

12. Instead of having a drink on my 21st birthday, I got my ears pierced. I had always wanted to do it, but my mom disapproved, so it was my one big rebellion. OOOHHHH.

13. I don’t ride rollercoasters.

14. I tend to get along with guys better than girls. I grew up with 3 older brothers and now work in a department of 4 guys, plus me.

15. I’m competitive.

16. I like to play contact sports like floor hockey, flag football, and a modified version of lacrosse. I usually turn into a different person when I’m on the field.

17. I have deep conversations with Jess, but usually it’s only over chats.

18. She tells me I’m direct.

19. I don’t like MySpace. I feel like it lessens my ability to really communicate with people.

20. I don’t like to read. I often hate it. I’m the person who likes the books with pictures and captions. I’m just a numbers person.

21. I am also a nerd.

22. I don’t like to cry. I usually have to be pretty mad, hurt, or hormonal.

23. I’m a pessimist. (I wonder how many times I will use words like don’t in this list rather than do.)

24. I am fairly naïve.

25. I like happy mediums and things in moderation, versus extremes.

26. I refuse to go on a diet. If I am making a change in my eating habits, it will be something I will do for life, not a few months or until I reach a certain goal and then return to horrible eating habits. I would rather eat a fairly healthy diet and have treats every now and then.

27. I love ice cream…that is always a treat!

28. I actually like vegetables.

29. I don’t like how many times I have said “I” in this list. It makes me feel self-centered.

30. I am self-conscious and my toughest judge is me.

31. I often don’t know how to take a compliment.

32. I am not posting this until I have 100, because I hate loose ends.

33. I currently drive a BMW, but I have always wanted to have a Ford F-150 (extended cab, of course) as my fun/non-practical car. People usually don’t believe me when I say that.

34. I am currently watching Jess freak out as she tells us about wolf spiders, and it’s hilarious!

35. I am currently debating whether or not to get cable and DVR. I have had rabbit ears for the last 3.5 years.

36. I am also considering quitting Netflix. I end up keeping the movies for a month…what a waste.

37. I am also debating whether or not to post this, because I am worried it is either too personal or too negative/depressing to be seen. Or even that I have said something that could make this a career limiting move. Hmmm…

38. I want to be a young mother, and therefore would like to have one child by the time I am 30. I’ve always dreamed of being a cool mom, but know that I am too motherly to be “cool.”

39. I always get more motivated to exercise when I get new gear. Yes, I am still part girl.

40. I can’t believe that I’m only on 39 right now. This is going to take FOREVER!

41. I always ignore those forwards that ask you do things like this and say fun facts like what was the last movie you watched and who you think will be the first to send this e-mail back.

42. Today I almost got tricked by a phony e-mail that tried to get me to enter my personal information. I’ll hand it to the people, they did a really good job at imitating the PayPal website.

43. I’m told I’m observant. I think it’s because I’m detail-oriented so I remember specific things that happen, but can’t always remember the big picture type stuff.

44. I tend to be a child at heart sometimes. I have a special place for animated movies. My all time classic is The Little Mermaid. Mulan wasn’t so bad either. =)

45. Sometimes people forget I am Asian. And in college, a lot of people assumed I was a biology major.

46. Sometimes I wish I was a gymnast.

47. There are 199 days until my wedding day.

48. When I go shopping for pants, I always have to look for the petite, short, or ankle length. Then when I am in the fitting room, sometimes the people in the store tell me those pants come in the shorter length, at which point I tell them, “I know, these are it.”

49. My passport picture is hideous because my brother worked on my teeth earlier that day and gave me an anesthetic. Apparently I was really sensitive, because it hadn’t worn off after 5 hours. So I look angry with my pseudo smile. Not to mention the fact that we also took our family photo in the same session.

50. I have the same couch and loveseat as my girlfriend in Tulsa. Totally coincidental.

51. I choose Target over Walmart, hands down. Unless there is something practical that I can’t find at Target…

52. My current work clothing standards are Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Loft.

53. I hate to iron, so I usually avoid it at all costs. I hope it’s not obvious…

54. My bed is probably my favorite place, and I hate to fall asleep without the weight of a blanket on top of me.

55. I am not a morning person. If I could, I would wake up at 9 or 10, but only if I had a schedule to keep.

56. I usually eat breakfast in the car on the way to work. I have occasionally done my make up in the car as well. Doesn’t usually turn out as well, so I just don’t bother if I’m running late.

57. My breakfast in the car is a cup of Honey Nut Cheerios. My car floor looks like I have a toddler.

58. I like to have a plan and/or schedule so I know what to expect. If plans change or are disrupted, I get stressed out. I live a stressful life…I’m working on it.

59. I cursed a lot in high school, but I stopped because I was in a really bad car accident my freshman year of college and if I had died, the last thing that would have came out of my mouth was “Oh S*!$” I am returning to some of my bad habits lately, especially while driving, and I am not proud.

60. By the time I finish this list, #47 will be inaccurate.

61. I am still a nerd, because I am auditing my own list.

62. I LOVE massages at the spa. I wish I could have one every week.

63. My brother called me tonight while Grey’s Anatomy was on, and I basically told him I couldn’t talk at the moment. How horrible am I? Thankfully, he’s also a fan so he understood. But the difference is he has DVR.

64. I worked at the Olive Garden as a hostess my freshman year of college.

65. When I was growing up, at least one of my brothers always had a girlfriend. Therefore, I thought I had to have a boyfriend. I started having crushes in kindergarten.

66. I wish I took violin lessons as a child. Instead I took piano and flute. Neither of which I keep up with today.

67. I drink green tea every morning at work because I thought it would be a healthy addition to my routine and hopefully prevent illness in the future. I also drink it to have a warm drink in the morning since I’m usually freezing all day.

68. I want to travel and experience the world. If I could get paid to do it, that would be even better.

69. Sir Mix-a-Lot would like me…

70. The term of endearment between my brothers and me is a Filipino word we originally thought meant stupid. Apparently it means something worse, but we continue to use it anyway. My almost 3 year old nephew has caught on, but can’t quite say the word so has made up a similar sounding one on his own. He also has been able to gather that it’s not necessarily a positive thing to be called. HAHA. Aren’t we great influences?

71. Because of #70, the youngest of my brothers is often called Uncle Boco by my nephew.

72. I get embarrassed fairly easily. I get embarrassed for other people too.

73. I wear a headband when I run because I have baby hairs that get in my face.

74. When I first found out that friends of mine drank, did drugs, smoked, or had sex I was very judgmental because I was naïve and thought that never happened and felt deceived when they tried to shelter me from knowing. I have learned to be more accepting and try to work on it everyday.

75. I have a hard time accepting when my friends change. I also have to work on that.

76. I hope that Dave can become a professor in a field that would require him to travel to Greece every summer to study the culture. When we were there, we met a couple who did that and were on their way to teach in London for a semester. How cool is that?

77. I am a gullible person. That annoys me, but again, I’m naïve and trust too easily.

78. I hope that I make enough money to live comfortably. I also hope that if I make a lot of money, that I remain humble and modest and generous to others.

79. I don’t know many of the traditional sayings known to most Americans. And if I do, I either confuse them or don’t understand what they mean. I blame this on growing up with parents who grew up in Asia.

80. I can’t buy/wear the boots that go up to your knees because my calves are too big.

81. I have to buy a dress for a gala next weekend, and there’s a 99% chance it will be black or have black in it.

82. I haven’t been able to work out with my trainer for two weeks straight. My hands are now peeling because the calluses that formed are going away. Gross…

83. I sometimes still sleep with a stuffed animal that I’ve had for a very long time. A Gund polar bear to be exact, and I have the same one in multiple sizes at my parents’ house. I guess it was somewhat of a collection.

84. I wish I had natural “skills” on the dance floor, but I was raised to believe that dancing was a horrible sin and now I am too uncomfortable/embarrassed when I get out there. It has to be something I took a class for like salsa or ballroom.

85. My least favorite subject in school was history.

86. My most favorite class was usually a math or science class. Go figure.

87. My dad told me in high school that I would be a good CPA. I told him no way. I hate it when he’s right.

88. I always worried that guys saw me as a friend and not a girlfriend. Fortunately I found the guy who saw me as both.

89. My dad’s advice to me about men was not to marry a parasite.

90. I am worried that my wedding will be a bore to all the guests. Hopefully the fact that there will be 500 of them will provide some form of entertainment in itself.

91. I helped start a Sabbath School I never attend. I am not a good person.

92. I prefer to be barefoot around the house. I think it started by the Filipino/Asian tradition to take off your shoes when you enter a house, but I never really bought into the other half of the tradition of wearing house slippers. Too many things to think about.

93. Past nicknames have been Smellie, Smellie McTae (in reference to Mollie McButter, and you have to know Tagalog to get this one), Water-Mellie, Nerdite #4, Melwad, Mellie-simo, and I’m sure there’s more, but I can’t remember them right now.

94. I don’t like my hands, I think they are too rough/rigid looking. Not quite man-hands, but not dainty.

95. Sometimes I grow my nails out because I’m too lazy to cut them. But if I had long nails and I was about to play a sport, I’d cut them in a heartbeat.

96. People often have a hard time guessing my nationality and it is often asked of me when I enter an Asian establishment. It depends on what they know, but I have been called Korean and Hawaiian. (For the record, I am half Filipino and half Chinese)

97. I have a Chinese name I never use. I believe it’s pronounced Lock Lock, but I get confused because I don’t think I say it right. It means joy or happiness I think.

98. I want to donate my hair to Locks of Love. I tried to do it once, but was hasty and cut my hair off before checking the requirements. I cut off an 8 inch ponytail and the minimum was 10.

99. I can be bossy. I have unknowingly told Dave to do something with a question through the tone of my voice and ending the sentence with a requesting word. For example: You will bring this in please?

100. I saved the best for last. I am marrying my best friend and the love of my life. That makes me very happy and I can’t wait until May 27!
